I use PIA, and on the website it says their VPN software has a 10-15% overhead while a router can have up to 50%. I have tested both many times and the computer software has always been faster. You CAN run DD-WRT. DD-WRT never overwrote the CFE. The only firmware that overwrote the CFE was Xvortex. Xvortex is a ILLEGAL Firmware. You have No access to source code, and it uses modules Licensed only to ASUS on Netgear routers. Use DD-WRT or Freshtomato, they both have there strong and weak points, I have used both.
